Massawa

The branch office of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Northern Red Sea region is stepping up development activities focusing on the construction of water catchments and water diversion schemes at a cost of 24 million Nakfa.

The activities are as part of the ongoing endeavors to achieve food security through diverting river waters flowing from highlands to agricultural sites. Besides, soil and water conservation activities are in progress in the sub-zones of She'ib, Afabet, Ginda, Foro, Massawa and Gelalo.

Reports also indicated that there are plans to renovate micro-dams in Gahtelai, Shekai, Digdig, Feleg and Baqla, in addition to constructing new ones in the sub-zones of Foro, Mai-Habar and Marsa-Gulbub. Moreover, additional reservoirs would be constructed in Gelalo, Nacfa and Foro.
