Harare — ZIMBABWE'S preparations for the women's cricket World Cup qualifiers in South Africa next month have not been going on smoothly.
The rains that have been pounding the country have complicated their training arrangements.
A number of scheduled matches against a Harare Select side and the Eaglesvale Under-16 side have also failed to materialise.
Team manager Chideza Mafunga is not a happy woman.
"The rains have proven to be a major disaster because we have not been able to follow our programme for the training sessions.
"We were supposed to have played Prince Edward School in a Twenjty20 match last week and we were also supposed to have played Eaglesvale Under-16 and the women's Harare Select side.
"But the rains have affected the grounds and we have not been able to make it to the fields," said Mafunga.
She said they only managed a full training session yesterday. "Today (yesterday) is the day that we have managed to pay a game.
"We took the chance to look at the batting, fielding, and bowling departments," said Mafunga. She, however, remained optimistic that the team would get enough training sessions before they leave for South Africa.
"We are leaving on the 16th (of February) so I am hopeful that we will be able to make use of the time that we have.
"We are also hoping that we will play as many matches as possible with schools like Churchill, Eaglesvale and Prince Edward because it has been difficult to follow the programme," said Mafunga.
