REBELS of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) on Wednesday attacked and over-ran an SPLA detachment in southern Sudan and took away four guns, security sources said.

About 50 rebels reportedly sneaked into southern Sudan from DR Congo, attacked the SPLA base at Keji-Keji and fled back to Congo.

The regional army spokesman, Lt. Ronald Kakurungu, on Thursday confirmed the incident but declined to give details.

"Our intelligence in the West Nile picked the report but was still verifying its authenticity," he said.

The attack comes at a time when the LRA and the Government have resumed peace talks in Juba.
