Abuja — The avoidable, sickening and deepening political haemorrhage in Kenya with well over 1000 dead, spectre of ethnic cleansing and slide into economic meltdown amidst worsening poverty constitute a new acid test for the celebrated new Africa's development paradigm, NEPAD.

From inception, the New Economic Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) was caught between great optimism and deep-rooted pessimism. Sadly events in Kenya have inadvertently proclaimed the triumph of the latter. Since its inception in July 2001 as a fruition of Millennium Partnership for Africa's Recovery Programme (MAP) and omega Plan, NEPAD was afflicted with the notorious malaise of African policy shouting match of 'yes' or 'no'.
