Three mobile police officers traveling in a Toyota land cruiser jeep miraculously escaped death last Wednesday when their vehicle flew over a bridge and plunged into a river at Abaji.
An eyewitness, Danjuma Garba said the accident occurred around 5.32pm while he was washing clothes inside the river.
"I heard a strange noise and the next thing was a jeep flying from the top of the bridge and landing inside the river," he narrated..
He said three mobile policemen climbed out of the jeep and rushed to the road to board commercial motorcycles to the Abaji town.
Our reporter gathered that the accident jeep belongs to a diplomatic mission and that the occupants were traveling from Lagos to Abuja when the accident occurred.
City News also learnt that a multiple accident occurred on that same day in which one person died and 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Abaji General Hospital.
A nurse at the hospital told our reporter that five persons with minor injuries had been treated and discharged.
The Abaji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. E.D Adebisi said immediately he received report of the crash, he ordered his men to conveyed the injured victims to the hospital, while the dead person was taken to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital mortuary.
