Massawa — Preparations are in full swing to colorfully commemorate the 18th anniversary of Operation Fenkil and Massawa's liberation from February 8 to 10 under the theme "Fenkil: Commemoration alongside All-round Endeavor".
The Chairman of the Northern Red Sea region Holidays Coordinating Committee, Mr. Hamed Haji, indicated that different programs, including briefings highlighting Operation Salina of 1977, arts exhibition, marching parade by the Eritrean Naval Force, carnival, artistic presentation under the theme "Fenkil in the Eyes of Poets," cultural show, and the like would be featured in the course of the historic event.
Moreover, he pointed out that different sports competitions such as soccer match, camel racing and athletics, as well as a special cycling race in which sportsmen from the administrative regions of South, Gash-Barka, Anseba and Northern Red Sea take part would be conducted.
Meanwhile, a special commemorative program "EDF Week" to highlight the 18th anniversary of Operation Fenkil which is organized by the Ministry of Defense would be conducted starting February 4. The program comprises different sports competitions, pictorial and cultural shows.
