Kampala — RESIDENTS of Gulu and Amuru districts have hope of getting better health services after AVSI, an Italian NGO working in the north, rehabilitated 11 health centres that were destroyed during the LRA war.
The AVSI public health officer in Gulu, Ilona Varallyay, said six of the health centres are in Gulu and five in Amuru.
Varallyay added that they renovated staff houses, constructed maternity units, placenta pits, pit latrines and ecosan toilets.
"In collaboration with the district health offices, AVSI is trying to help bring health services closer to the people, especially as they begin moving back to their original homes from the camps," she said.
At the handover ceremony for Lanenober and Loyoajonga health centres in Omoro county last week, Gulu LC5 chairman Norbert Mao commended AVSI for the gesture.
While opening Kaladima health centre in Amuru last week, the district chairman, Anthony Omach Atube, urged the people to leave the camps, return home and make use of the health centres.
