Kenya: Calls for Dialogue to End Clashes

Nairobi — Sabaot elders have called for a ceasefire in the fight pitting two clans, which has claimed 32 lives.

The elders asked militia from the Soy and Ndorobo clans to put down their arms and sort out their dispute through dialogue.

The two clans clashed in Kimorioy, Trans-Nzoia District, last Sunday over land and cattle.

Elders, led by former Assistant minister, Mr Wilberforce Kisiero, and former nominated MP, Mr Samuel Moiben, warned against fighting and asked the two clans to end it.

"We don't want to see what happened in Mt Elgon. They must stop fighting," Kisiero said at a meeting in Kitale.

"These men know well we are numerically disadvantaged. We don't want to lose more of our people," added former Army Captain, Mr Francis Koti.
