AVSI has trained 80 special police constables in the two districts of Gulu and Amuru on unexploded ordinances as internally displaced persons return home.

AVSI is non-government organisation founded in Italy. It's mission is to support human development in developing countries, with special focus on education and promotion of human dignity of everyone.

The participants from Amuru were 40 and others from Pabbo, Atiak, Pulonga, Kochgoma, Alero and Anaka sub - counties. Gulu had 40 SPCs from Koro, Odeke, Palaro, Bobi, Lakwana and Paicho sub -counties.

While handing over certificates to the SPCs last week, the programme officer, AVSI Mine Action and Victim assistant Mr Micheal O. Ongom Micheal , said they decided to train the SPCs because they are the wings of the government which are closed to the community.

"We have trained the SPCs so that they can sensitise the community on the dangers of unexploded ordinances".
