Eritrea: Different Activities Underway in Commemoration of Operation Fenkil And Liberation of Massawa

Massawa

Reports from the port city of Massawa indicated that different activities are underway in commemoration of the 18th anniversary of the historic Operation Fenkil and the liberation of Massawa.

Different programs, including exhibitions, marching parade by the Eritrean Naval Force, arts exhibition portraying the reconstruction program of the port city, carnival and cultural shows, among others are in progress as part of the three-day commemorative event.

Also today, the Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, opened a sculpture and pictorial exhibition staged by different institutions and associations around Cinema Sigalet. Moreover, veteran fighters who took part in Operation Salina of 1977 gave extensive briefings on the heroic feats demonstrated by the freedom fighters in the historic operation.

Similar briefings was also given on the sacrifices paid and the heroism demonstrated in the coordinated offensive against the Ethiopian forces of occupation, thereby leading to the liberation of Massawa in February 1990.
