After an almost endless wait, the organizers have finally made it public, the list of nominees for the third edition of Hip Hop World Awards.

The list made available to select journalists this week shows that it will be a tough battle between a couple of hit-makers who have all distinguished themselves within the past twelve months. Top on the list is 2face Idibia, Mr. Olu Maintain and Asa.

And for the artist of the year - the most keenly contested category -it will be a strong battle beween 2face Idibia, Olu, P-square and D'banj. An excited Paul Play went home with the award last year, whose will the prize be in 2008?

"It's taken months of rigorous screening to arrive at the list', said a statement from the board of judges."And it is our hope that this represents the industry's journey between December 2006 and December 2007.

Only the best deserve the HHWA gong, and that is our sole mission- to ensure that the credibility of the awards is not compromised, while rewarding all those urbane music makers who continue to bring joy to millions of Nigerians."

This year's edition will hold in Lagos on March 15, 2008.

The yellow carpet event is expected to attract the creme of Nigeria's music stars from the globe.

Sponsored by MTN, HHWA 2008 is propelled by the theme-'change has to change".

The event is also supported by Stallion Motors, STV, MTV base, Digiprints, Hip TV and Virgin Nigeria.

In the CEO, Ayo Animashaun's words, "people keep praising us for doing a wonderful job at Hip Hop World. But we know we're not there yet.

We started the revolution. Now, it's time to take the game to a totally unprecedented level. Who says Nigerians can't do world- class shows? This time around, change just has to change..."

Meanwhile, the duo of Obi Asika and Olisa Adibua have been named as this year's inductees into the HHWA hall of fame. Asika is the chairman at Storms records, and has been involved in nurturing the hip hop culture in Nigeria for over two decades.

Record label partner and radio head Olisa is one of the most consistent custodians of the genre in Nigeria, and right from his days at Clapperboard TV, he has been passionate about breaking new talents into the sence.

When they are decorated with their award on March 15, Asika and Adibua will join greats like Keke Ogungbe, Dayo Adeneye, Edi Lawani, Ben Murray-Bruce and DJ Jimmy Jatt who have previously been inducted into the HHWA hall of fame.
