Massawa

The 18th anniversary of Operation Fenkil culminating in the liberation of the port city was today commemorated in a patriotic spirit

President Isaias Afwerki delivered a keynote speech on the occasion highlighting the precious legacy of the historic event and the multi-faceted development programs being implemented and the ones envisaged in Massawa and its surroundings (see full text of the President's address posted earlier).

In addition to the President, PFDJ Secretary Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, the Defense Minister, Gen. Sebhat Ephrem, the Chairperson of the National Union of Eritrean Women, Ms. Leul Gebreab, the Administrator of the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Osman Mohammed Omar, and the Administrator of Massawa city, Ms. Fana Tesfamariam, respectively laid wreath at the Martyrs' Cemetery in memory of the nation's martyrs.

Present at the colorful anniversary commemoration of Operation Fenkil were senior government officials, Army commanders, religious leaders, diplomats and invited guests, as well as thousands of Massawa residents and other parts of the country.
