Maputo — Mozambique's Energy Minister, Salvador Namburete dismissed in Maputo on Thursday as rumors claims of fuel shortage in the capital.
According to the minister, the tankers that normally supply petrol stations in the capital have been grounded for the last few days due the long weekend (Monday was a public holiday). This situation was worsened by the riots that caused chaos in Maputo and Matola on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Some petrol stations were vandalized during the riots, forcing them to close. But according to Namburete, the situation will improve by late Thursday.
At least 104 people were injured and three were killed when huge crowds took to the streets to protest against rises in minibus (locally known as "Chapas" ) fares.
