Africa Music Network to Unveil Over 10 Albums

Harare — AFRICAN Music Network (Afrimune) Records  a new record label - will this week unveil more than 10 albums featuring artistes who passed through Music Crossroads and other largely self-taught musicians.

Headquartered in Harare, the stable has also signed up some seasoned artistes who have been making waves on the local music scene.

Mathias Bangure, the chief executive officer for Afrimune Records, said his stable would be distributing its music both locally and regionally.

Afro-jazz outfit Bongo Love, who passed through Music Crossroads, will be launching their debut album Afro Acoustic.

The trailblasing quartet has been promoting the album during some of their international tours although it is not yet available locally.

Mbare-based sungura outfit Sukuzonke Stars will also unveil their debut album Sadza Husavi.

Under the leadership of Effort Zingwena, Sukuzonke has been causing a stir in some joints in and around the capital.

The third artiste, who also benefited from the talent search programme, is Jah Lallow whose debut album Mari would also be marketed and distributed by Afrimune Records.

Some seasoned artistes, whose music would also be unveiled this week, include 2007 Zimbabwe Music Awards winner Frank Chitumba currently riding high with the album Kwatakabva Kure.

Sista Flame -- real name Fortune Matenga -- will launch an album titled The Road.

High-riding mbira outfit Mbira DzeMutupo has also joined the stable along with Prince Tendai.

Reggae crooner King Kodza and gospel sensation Amai Sanudi are the latest additions to the stable.

Bangure said one of Afrimune Records' main objectives was to become a one-stop shop for African music.

"Our thrust will be solely on African music popular worldwide and we hope to promote anybody who plays music with African influences.

"With the few resources at our disposal, I feel we can make the grade and the response too has also been overwhelming," he said.

Bangure said a number of local entertainers have expressed interest in joining the stable although he could not be drawn into revealing their names.

"Divulging their names at the moment will be premature and we hope to do so when the time is ripe," he explained.

Added Bangure: "At the moment we are simply unveiling some products we have at our disposal, but the official launch of the stable has been set for March on dates to be announced.

"We hope to make it a big occasion where some stakeholders in the music industry will be afforded the opportunity to mingle."

Bangure, who is also the national co-ordinator for Music Crossroads for the Zimbabwe Chapter, has been involved in a number of talent search programmes having groomed a number of big names to date.

These include Progress Chipfumo, Ihawu Lesizwe, First Farai, Gwindingwi Rine Shumba and many other groups.

He has in the past enjoyed close working relationships with National Arts Council of Zimbabwe among other arts regulatory bodies both at home and in the region.
