Massawa — The three-day commemorative event of the 18th anniversary of Operation Fenkil culminating in the liberation of the port city of Massawa concluded yesterday with patriotic zeal.
Different programs, including carnival, arts exhibition, painting and sculpture works, cultural shows, sports competitions and artistic presentations, public rally and tour to different institutions, as well as briefings highlighting the heroic feats during Operation Salina in 1977 and marching parade by the Eritrean Naval Force were conducted in the course of the commemorative event.
Moreover, racing competitions of cars, motorcycles and camels were conducted, in addition to cycling race in which sportsmen from Gash-Barka, Anseba, Northern and Southern Red Sea regions took part. Prizes were awarded to participants of the competition who demonstrated excellence.
The commemorative event characterized was an occasion in which the Eritrean people renewed their commitment to build a strong and prosperous nation, according to reports.
In the closing ceremony, the chairman of the Northern Red Sea region holidays coordinating committee and the PFDJ head in the region, Mr. Hamed Haji Mohammed Nur, commended all the individuals and parties which made due contribution for the success of the commemorative event.
