The Director, Research and Planning, Defence Headquarters, Major General Muhammed Saleh, yesterday in Abuja, said that Nigerian troops at the Chadian border were stationed there to avert incursion by Chadian rebels.

Saleh made this known to a delegation of the Jordanian Royal Defence College led by the College's Commandant, Brig.-Gen. Ali Azeizeh, who were on a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Owoye Azazi.

He said the crises at the Nigerian border with Chad were one of the serious external threats presently being faced by Nigeria.

On internal security, Saleh cited the raging crises in the Niger Delta as the most serious one where a Joint Task Force has been constituted to protect the civil populace.

"Internally, being a multi-lingual country and with religious differences, we sometimes experience some internal security problems.

"But the most serious issue at hand is the Niger Delta crises," he said.

Also speaking on behalf of the CDS, the Chief of Administration, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Musa Ajadi, said the Nigerian Armed Forces will focus more on training. (NAN)
