The regular Tripartite Meeting of the Eritrean Cabinet of Ministers, Regional Administrators and Operation Zone Commanders was conducted in Massawa today following the just-concluded commemoration of the 18th anniversary of Operation Fenkil.

The meeting held in-depth deliberations on the all-round efforts exerted in all administrative regions in 2007 and the ones envisaged to be implemented this year on the basis of the nation's action program of concerted endeavors for the liberation, development and prosperity.

Noting the vital significance of enhanced efforts aimed at achieving food security, the meeting assessed the tasks carried out in 2007 and the accomplishments registered in promoting economic development, particularly. It also pointed out that the encouraging agricultural output obtained last year is the outcome of newly introduced modern farming methods and the dedication of the farming community, as well as satisfactory rainfall. The meeting further underlined the need to make the necessary monitoring of crop gathering and price in view of the Government's huge expenditure to boost agricultural production.

Stressing the need to bring more land under cultivation for strategic crops experimented in the Southern region, the meeting called for stepped-up efforts to raise production and coordinated management to this end. As regards endeavors to achieve food security, it reminded pertinent institutions to strengthen modern farming methods and finalize preparations towards identifying fertile agricultural sites, among others.

The tripartite meeting noted the encouraging achievement registered so far in developing the fisheries sector, and agreed that more infrastructure facilities should be put in place in Assab, Ti'o and other areas. It also conducted extensive discussion on the progress made in the implementation of different development programs in all sectors.
