When Kwaito outfit Mad Doggs first broke onto the scene with their single Tsokotsa they impressed immediately. Some people were already suggesting that they would be the next big thing on the local kwaito scene. Fans took an instant liking only to be left in the lurch.
The boys just evaporated from the scene without any announcement and their music also vanished from the airwaves.
However fans should stop pressing panic buttons because the youngsters have not given up yet. In fact they are still mad about their music and are now planning to take it to another level.
"We have not chickened out. We just took a break but we are now busy in the studio working on an album proper because last time we only did a single and this is now time to expand to new horizons," one of the two members of the group Mothudi 'Ice' Aogane told Showbiz.
Oagane was an auto mechanics student at Kanye Brigades, while Mosimane 'Mafia' Raditladi was re-writing his Form Five exams to improve his results.
"I understand that our fans would have wanted to see more of us in action but we had to set our priorities right because music can be so unrealisable.
It was important for us to have our certificates before we could fully commit ourselves to music," Oagane said.
"We are still mad about music, there is no way we would quit so early, which is why we are now back in studio to do our album," he said.
While recording the album the boys have been alternating between TM records and Coloza's studio.
Coloza is a "has-been" kwaito musician made popular by the track Mogoditshane Route 7 but Mad Doggs believe he can do a great deal to help them produce a richly rewarding album.
"We really want to come up with a good album, we are not in a hurry and we believe that working with various people with the right experience will do the trick.
I cannot say when the album will be available on the market but it is coming this year, most probably in June," Oagane explained.
The youngsters have already started performing again and fans can now rest assured that they will get more and more of them in the new year.
"We were performing at Zebras Club last weekend and more shows are in the pipeline.
We know our fans have been waiting and we want to make that wait worthwhile by performing to our level best and actually producing a good album for them," he said.
