Eritrea: Over 320 Million Nakfa Paid in Benefit Scheme to Families of Martyrs in 2007

In line with the Government's program of supporting the families of martyrs, over 320 million Nakfa has been paid in benefit scheme to 93,600 families in 2007. The Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare indicated that 16 offices have been opened in all the administrative regions in a bid to facilitate the task.

It is known that benefit scheme amounting to about 1.3 billion Naka has been paid to families of fallen heroes during the period 2004 to 2007. Meanwhile, as part of the initiatives taken by Eritrean citizens abroad to extend support to needy martyrs' families, nationals residing in 23 different countries abroad are assisting 6,696 families. In this regard, over 12 million Nakfa was extended to the beneficiaries last year.

Reports also indicated that a sum amounting to Nfa. 99 million has been secured through the catering activities being undertaken by the Ministry in support of needy citizens.
