Nigeria: Police Investigates Death of Suspected Rape Victims

The Ebonyi State police command has said that it is investigating the death of a woman believed to have been died after being sexually assaulted.

The police public relations officer, Mr. Frederick Nudan confirmed the incident.

The victim was a mother of seven children. The command's spokesman said that no arrest had been made and that investigations were ongoing. It was gathered that the 48 year-old woman was found dead in her vegetable garden.

It was also learnt that the deceased had gone to water her garden at about 10am and after about two hours, people came to report that her corpse was seen lying in her garden. When people rushed to the scene, they saw her lifeless body, lying there with her cloth tone.

It was gathered that since the incident occurred, people in that neighbourhood had been living in fear. Most people now trek in groups to either cross Agali street to Girls High School, Azuiyi Okwu or even when going to markets and farmers to avoid falling victim.

Pastor Laz-Ben Nzekwe, from the area had appealed to security agencies to ensure that they unmasked the perpetrators of such act.

He said that it is unbelieveable that such an incident could happen undetected in the heart of Abalkaliki town.
