Though traditional music and rhumba in particular have become the most popular music genres in the country, there is no doubt that Kwaito and Hip Hop have made their mark too.
Kwaito originates from South Africa and it took many years for Batswana musicians to master the genre. One of the reasons locals have made their mark is that South Africans are now more into House music. The latest to join the fray is the Molepolole based duo of Twiz and Mdevelisto with their album, Same Blood Presents Twiz and Mdevelisto.
The album opens with a simple but purposeful line, which introduces the record company that recorded and distributed the album, Same Blood Records. The next song, Tshikinya, is likely to be popular with most listeners. The song serves as an obligatory party track and it is interesting to hear the duo blending the grim with the not-so-grim subject matter over a heavy beat. Motlogele follows and it is sort of a hip-hop song. The delivery of the two group members is amazing and the fact that they are able to rap along a slow beat, though they are a kwaito group, is a plus for them.
Le tsile go bona is a purely kwaito track and does not disappoint. The track features Mbodlela. There is also a house tune called Feel the music which might also amuse listeners. All the songs were produced by Skit except for war, which VS had a hand in producing. Summertime, Getto rude boy, Chill with us, skit boy, Kgale ke sokola also make the album compact.
In conclusion, this album will draw in the listeners and keep their attention.
