Angola: National Police Detain, Extradite Nigerians Over Arms Deal

Luanda — Two Nigerian nationals who had been arrested by Angola's national police over alleged trafficking of arms and explosives in the country to carry out terrorist activities in the world were extradited Thursday from Luanda.

Henry Himomotim Okah and Eduardo Atata were allegedly arrested in possession of a list of description and amount of war material and military intelligence norms manuals they intended to buy in Angola, according to Eduardo Augusto, Interpol/Luanda's senior officer.

Eduardo Augusto stressed the two had designed a strategy to ship the weapons out on a Korean vessel moored off Luanda Bay.

According to the source, the two Nigerians entered Angola with the help of a local citizen, Francisco da Cruz, who facilitated the whole migratory procedures and provided assistance to obtain the war material.

Meanwhile, police report say that, in their country, the two are charged with terrorist activities that include formation and leadership of criminal associations that deal in import, possession and trafficking of arms and explosive substances.

These actions are condemned by the African Union convention on terrorism prevention and combat and transferred into the Angolan juridical system, through the 25/99 resolution of August 27 of the National Assembly.

Angolan police authorities received from their Nigerian counterpart (Interpol/Lagos) a warrant of localisation, detention and the respective international arrest warrant for them to be tried in their country.

The ceremony of extradition was witnessed by senior officers of Interpol/Luanda and Interpol/Lagos and Nigerian diplomats in Angola.
