Harare — IT'S a rare collaboration! Solo guitarist Stephen "Dhongi" Makoni, dub-poet Albert Nyathi and afro-jazz singer Bob Nyabinde will soon embark on joint shows that will culminate in the recording of an album.
Nyathi confirmed the forthcoming crusades but was quick to point out that there were few minor issues they needed to iron-out before unveiling the road shows.
"We have talked about that issue with Dhongi and Bob (Nyabinde) and we felt it was a unique concept people would certainly enjoy.
"As you know, Dhongi and Nyabinde's music has lots of humour and spicing it up with poetry is something people would certainly like," he said.
Nyathi promised to keep revellers posted on their forthcoming shows once they have finalised on some technicalities.
"At the moment, we are yet to finalise on some issues but we are certainly going to hold more collaborative shows this year to integrate poetry and music," he added.
Speaking from his base in Rusape, the humorous Makoni said: "Who told you that? Anyway, it's true that we intend to hold joint shows as a trio and we will be just trying to see how it will go.
"We have not done it before but we will simply try it this time around."
Nyabinde too, said he was aware of the collaborative shows although he insisted that he was not sure on the exact dates the shows would begin.
"You see, it's a new concept that we have come up with but at the moment we have not agreed on how we shall go about it but the public will know soon," he said.
If the collaborative acts begin, Nyathi said, fans would get a treat of a lifetime, as the three creative artistes are revered entertainers who have seen it all.
In fact, it will be a matter of experience versus talent and in such case people will certainly get real value for their money added Nyathi.
Nyathi, an internationally acclaimed entertainer, has over the years thrilled cosmopolitan crowds with his poetry.
On the other hand, Dhongi needs no introduction and he normally plays at corporate functions and upmarket venues.
Nyabinde too, has built a large fan base over the years and his collaboration comes at a time when he is enjoying enormous success in jazz circles.
