The Assembly of the Central region held its 7th regular meeting from February 15 to 16.

Speaking at the opening session, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, stressed the role of a strong regional assembly in building a prosperous nation and called on the Assembly members to work diligently in the social, political and economic domains, among others. He also urged them to reinforce national unity and live up to expectations in serving the public.

The Chairman of the Regional Assembly, Mr. Abraham Semere, indicated on his part that in line with on-going endeavors to achieve food security, major programs in the agriculture sector have been implemented in the region last year. They included soil and water conservation, the renovation and construction of micro-dams, promotion potable water supply, reduction mother and child mortality rates, as well as controlling communicable diseases. He further stressed the need for Assembly members to exert vigorous efforts so as to register greater achievements.

Participants of the meeting held discussions on papers presented by the committees of social service, economic development, culture and tradition, law and order, and the reports on work accomplishments of the regional administration.
