Manual Workers Union members in Serowe have been encouraged to take advantage of the good rains received in the region to plough and improve their livelihoods.

Speaking at the annual general meeting at Lady Khama Centre, the Regional Chairperson, Mr Lesetse Gontswe, said as there were enough rains this year manual workers should plough so that they could support their families to reduce the costs of buying goods.

Mr Gontswe encouraged union members to venture into different business to improve their standard of living.

"You can form cooperatives, buy shares, and form groups that lend money (cash loans) and share the profits to buy food during Christmas season".

Mr Gontswe said for these things to be achievable, people should put hatred and greed aside and work hard in their respective departments.

For his part, the Secretary of MWU Serowe Region, Mr Betshobatsile Otsile, told the meeting that they met the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Daniel Kwelagobe, last year at the union conference in Maun and came up with several resolutions aimed at improving the working standards of workers.

He said one the resolutions adopted was that of leave concession, saying it was agreed that manual workers should also be entitled to a leave concession after two years as permanent and pensionable officers and not five years. BOPA
