20 February 2008

Kebbi — Lack of adequate funding and commitment by the Kebbi State government may mar this year's Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival coming up March, 2008.

A visit to the Matan Fada River Water, situated at the Northern part of the ancient town of Argungu, showed that renovations was at a zero level, contrary to previous years when months before the time all necessary arrangements would have been completed

The venues of events that need a serious attention include: Catapulting, Local boxing and wrestling, kabanchi display, among others. At the time of filing this report the fishing village used to house top visiting government officials, traditional rulers and tourists were waiting for a touch.

Investigation showed that barely two weeks to the commencement of the scheduled fishing and Cultural Festival, arrangements were at a very snail speed at both the venue of events and accommodation sites of top government functionaries who are expected to grace the occasion.
