The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Special Liaison Mission in Addis Ababa yesterday began a four day capacity building training on Camp Management.

The training being conducted by International Experts was officially opened by the Head of Policy Planning and Program Department of Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency Girma Haile Michael and addressed by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator Fidele Sarasoro.

The Participants were drawn from humanitarian actors from the various regions including; Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Bureaus (DPPB) Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA), UN agencies, Ethiopian Red Cross, local NGOs and international organizations with responsibilities for emergency and humanitarian relief operations in the country, the liaison mission said in a statement.

The training is part of IOM's contribution to Emergency and Post Crisis, and Humanitarian Response Program towards more effective and well coordinated humanitarian responses to crisis. The training also aims to develop awareness and build competencies in camp management and familiarize partners with the camp Management Toolkit. The training will address issues of protection, care and camp management as well as the cluster approach in crisis situations among many others, according to the statement.

The training would be instrumental in bringing together experts from various parts of the country with crisis management responsibilities to share best practices, strengthen the coordination of network of humanitarian actors, in addition to the new skills and knowledge to be gained from the training says Cecilia Omole, IOM Officer-in-Charge.
