The State Counsel for Mezam in Bamenda Justice Mboa, had released 19 officials of the Southern Cameroons National Council that were arrested on February 9.

According to a press release, issued by the SCNC National communication Secretary, Mr. Ngiewih Asunkwan, the detainees went through hell for five days under detention at the Bamenda Central Police Station and the Mobile Intervention GMI at Mile 7 Mankon.

"I must state here that they were detained under very harsh conditions for five days."

"It was the first time ever, in the history of the SCNC liberation struggle that captured suspects were released at the level of the State Counsel without being remanded in prolonged custody for the so-called preliminary investigations."

The activists were granted bail in the sum for FCFA 200,000 each.It should be recalled that the activists were among many who converged at a residence of one of theirs to plan the celebration of the 2nd UNPO International Day of Action under the theme "Burma and Democracy" which was slated for February 11.

Police disrupted the meeting and arrested most of the leaders. On February 13, they were brought before the State Counsel, who granted them bail. They are expected to appear in court on March 5, to be formally charged.
