The Board of Directors of the Local Government Training Centre (CEFAM), met in Buea recently for the 59th and 60th sessions with two main items on the agenda: scrutiny of the administrative accounts and management for the 2007 financial year; adoption of the action plan and the budget for 2008.

Chaired by Thomas Ejake Mbonda (Inspector General for Regional and Local Authorities, Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation) representing the Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation; it was in a conducive setting that the Board carried out deliberations and adopted the administrative accounts of the Director of CEFAM for the 2006 financial year.This account stands in revenue at eight hundred and thirty eight million two hundred and eleven thousand one hundred and five ( CFA 838.211.105 francs) and expenditure at seven hundred and thirty one million two hundred and ninety seven thousand nine hundred and seventeen (CFA 731.297.917 francs); making a surplus of revenue over expenditure of one hundred and six million nine hundred and thirteen thousand one hundred and eighty eight ( CFA 106.913.188 francs).

The Board equally adopted the budget for 2008 which stands in revenue and expenditure at one billion fifteen million (CFA 1.015.000.000 francs).While congratulating the Director of CEFAM Mr Mathieu Hagbe for his efficient management of the institution and measures being taken to improve on the quality of training as well as ameliorate the working conditions; the Board hailed the 25th June 2007 hitch free official launch of the 2007/2009 training period for trainees and adopted an ambitious action plan for 2008 geared towards improved output.

It should be recalled that CEFAM is a public establishment created by Presidential Decree N° 77/494 of December 1977 and has three training cycles: Cycle One for the training of senior staff of local administration, Cycle Two for the training of intermediate staff of local council services and Cycle Three for the retraining and further training of the personnel of Cycles One and Two. The training programmes are designed to enable the council actors concerned to be capable of performing their duties in regional and local authorities.
