A Limbe-based health NGO, Uphealth Foundation, has launched a new scheme aimed at facilitating access to affordable and quality treatment for various ailments known as the Universal Medical Health Trust.

During the presentation of the project at the Botaland Community Hall on Saturday, February 16, the Director Uphealth Foundation, Dr. Anjorin Ekema, said it was an initiative designed to enable, especially the less financially endowed persons of the community, to have quality treatment as well as have health security.

"What I am launching today is a health cooperative where people shall contribute a token of say FCFA 2,000 monthly and would be able to get free treatment whenever they happen to fall ill," Dr Anjorin said.

According to him, each family member shall have to contribute a token of FCFA 5,500 to the scheme for each of the family members to be able to benefit.

Dr Anjorin revealed that Uphealth Foundation already runs a well-equipped clinic, Hillcrest Group Clinic, where patients shall go for treatment. He, however, said he was working to have other partners so that patients shall be able to have a variety of clinics where they could go for treatment.

He said his Foundation has been working with the Rochester University in the US and through this relationship he will get access to medical diagnostic equipment. The District Medical Officer for Limbe, Dr Matilda Manjo, said the project was very encouraging.
