Ethiopia: Travelling Cyclists Promote Bikes for Sake of Environment

A team of bicyclists from around the world on tour and promoting the use of bicycle as an alternative means of transport with a view to contribute towards the conservational of the environment arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.

The "Tour d' Afrique 2008 Cairo to Cape Town are also traveling to support healthcare organizations.

The 17-member team on Tour d'afrique came from Egypt after a similar mission there and are on their way to Cape Town, covering 12,000 kms in 120 days Country Director of Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR), Bantirgu Hailemariam welcomed the touring team who donated 50 bicycles for five NGO's in Ethiopia.

The team includes travelers from 17 countries who would cover 10 African countries.

Spiros and his wife Maria, members of the team, said their first impressions about Africa changed after seeing the reality.

"It was our first time to come to Africa and it was an exciting journey,".Spiros told The Daily Monitor.
