The Ethiopian private sector will do better to make the best out of the chance the Addis Chamber International Trade Fair expected to offer in the area of technology transfer, the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations(ACCSA) urged on Tuesday.
The l2th ACI trade fair which kicked off here today at the AA Exhibition centre is hoped to offer the best opportunity for the Ethiopian private sector which is expected to capitalize on the prospect of knowledge sharing during and beyond the exhibition.
"Among many benefits to be gained from the Trade Fair, the Technology transfer is considered the major one which the Ethiopian private sector should gain from its foreign counterparts," Deputy Secretary General and Manger of ACCSA, Tamrat Admassu told a press conference at the AA Exhibition centre.
Companies from 23 countries around the world are displaying products and services, at the week-long exhibition.
With over 30 companies participating in the trade fair, India followed by Iran and China is said to dominate the trade fair taking over 20% of foreign quota.
The Indian companies make up the widest possible spectrum comprising companies engaged in software, engineering equipment, leather, machineries, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, herbal cosmetics, textiles, ladies garments, handicrafts, plastic products, packaging materials, among others.
On top of that, major Indian companies like Tata International, HCL Infosystems Ltd., Bharat Rassayan Ltd., RP Infosystems (P) Ltd., and Swastik Polymers are participating.
Meanwhile, the accommodation capacity of the Addis Ababa Exhibition Centre was put under a question mark in the face of the international trade fair where more number of companies showed interest but were refused permission to partake in the fair, in vain.
According to President of AACCSA, Eyessuswork Zafu, this calls for a modern, up to the standard international exhibition centre which will have a capacity to accommodate much more than the AA Exhibition centre.
He said the association was in "full agreement" with the city council to start a new project for the construction a trade fair centre which will lie on a 110 CM around CMC.
The trade fair is being organized to mark 60 anniversary of ACCSA along with the Ethiopian Millennium.
In the seven-day long Trade Fair, every day would have its own theme dedicated to be celebrated: Addis Ababa City Day, Indian Day, Italian Day, Life Fitness Day, Hagbes Day, Ethiopian Reflection Day, Netherlands Day, Germane Day as well as Visitors Day.
In related news, reports indicated that Ethiopian companies, along with other countries from Africa will take part in this year's BioFach, the world's premier trade show for the booming international organic foods sector.
BioFach will bring together more than 2,500 exhibitors and approximately 45,000 trade visitors from over 110 countries in Nuremberg, Germany this week from the 21st to the 24th February.

According to the reports, Ethiopian exporters headed for Germany joining the effort to supply organic produce, primarily to the European Union, but also to the US, Japan and other markets.
