22 February 2008

Over 50 youths, who militate in the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party, were recently in Bamenda trained on capacity building skills.

The seminar, sponsored by Jean Juress Foundation and Westminster Foundation for Democracy, schooled the youths on various aspects of social democracy and the political landscape of Cameroon.

Topics treated included the Birth of democracy in Cameroon, Concept of SDF, Role of the Youths in Nation-building, SDF Constitution, Youth Mobilisation in Effecting Real Change, Socialist International and its role in promoting social values, among others.

Addressing the youths, the SDF National Chairman, John Fru Ndi, regretted that the youths, quite often, are used as election riggers by the regime in power.According to Fru Ndi, if this trend is sustained, it will create problems for this country in future. He said he feels distressed the way the youths are groomed.

"Many of you are being given very cheap education on account of the poor educational policy of this country," he said. The SDF Chair expressed the wish to see the youths assume the role to become the "real engine of change" in Cameroon after the three-day seminar.

He warned that if the youths in the SDF continue to be indifferent, others would shape their future and their dreams would be frustrated.

Earlier, the Provincial Chairman of the SDF, Bernard Tabali, and the Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Fidelis Balick Awa, in separate welcome speeches, said millions of unemployed youths roaming the streets constitute a great danger.
