Eritrean nationals residing in Australia and New Zealand pledged to contribute 400 dollars each as an expression of their support to the major development programs being implemented through the coordinated efforts of the people and the Government.

They made the pledge in a seminar conducted on February 17 by Mr. Bashir Idris Nur, Head of Community and Consular Affairs in Australia. He indicated that fruitful outcomes would be registered inline with the Government's endeavors to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and encourage investment. He also outlined the existing investment opportunities in the Homeland.

Moreover, on the basis of a program to establish an institution that embraces Eritrean citizens living in Australia and New Zealand, a 9-member provisional committee has been set up and that the fee for a single share has been fixed at 200 Australian dollars, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the Eritrean Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, Dr. Andeab Gebremeskel, held talks on February 18 with the President of the Australian Parliament, Senator Ferguson, on relations between Eritrea and Australia. In the meeting, Senator Ferguson lauded the role Eritrea had played and the efforts it is exerting to promote peace in the Sudan.
