Lusaka — The Sub-Committee of Finances of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) is analysing Saturday and Sunday, in Lusaka, the organisation's budget proposal for the 2008/2009 biennium, a meeting that Angola is attending.
The gathering is analysing a draft budget estimated at USD 49 million and also the contributions of SADC member states.
Speaking to the press, the department head of the SADC National Secretariat, Nazaré Salvador, disclosed that the meeting will also assess the report about the auditing on the organisation's annual accounts and the 2006/2007 budget.
According to Nazaré Salvador, the proposed budget for 2008/2009 is of USD 49 million, an amount that member states want to review due to the existence of some programmes and projects.
"The budget has revenues that come from contributions made by member states, international and extraordinary partners. Fifty percent is financed by member states and the other fifty by the international cooperation partners, through donations" he explained.
The SASDC Sub-Committee of Finances is made up by five countries. It is tasked with preparing the paperwork relating to the implementation of the budget and the draft budget, to submit it to the Committee of Finances.
Saturday's gathering precedes a series of meetings that will culminate in the SADC Council of Ministers meeting, scheduled for 28-29 February, in Lusaka, Zambia.
