Cameroon: Ghanaian Family Claims Eto'o's Fatherhood

A recent report from a Ghanaian tabloid, Graphic Sports, has it that a certain Eto family in Sovie Avenue near Kpando in Volta, Ghana, has claimed relationship with the Cameroonian goal king and three-time African Footballer of the year, Samuel Eto'o.

According to the report, one of the Etos, Simon Komla Eto, was the biological father of Samuel Eto'o Fils. They claimed that Komla had an affair with a Cameroonian woman in 1982, but nothing was heard of him until his demise.

The paper claimed that it carried out an investigation with the aid of one of the Eto family, Mary Merlomey and one Dan Dzide, a native of the Volta region. According to the ostensible investigations, they established traces of a likely lineage between Samuel Eto'o and the Etos in Ghana.

It states, Elizabeth Afoa Eto, 58, a sister of Komla Eto, the supposed father of Samuel Eto'o, who gave the chronology of the family history, said her brother Komla died when Eto'o was just two years old and believed the mother may not have told the FC Barcelona striker of his Ghanaian paternity.

The paper claims that Samuel Eto'o was confronted concerning the issue, after loosing to Egypt at the AFCON, and he was befuddled when Graphic Sports showed him the picture of his supposed father at Novotel in Accra.

Eto'o is reported to have said he wouldn't have known the man since he was young when he learnt that his father had died. However, it states that Samuel Eto'o reckoned that the picture resembled him.

The paper further states that when Samuel Eto'o was told that his senior siblings were living in Sovia and that they were the exact replica of him, they entreated him to go look for them, but Eto'o Fils became dumfounded until he joined his team mates.

Graphic Sports reported that Eto'o's supposed aunt, Morlemey, is requesting for a paternity test to establish the truth or otherwise. That she made it clear that the family was not pursuing this because of Samuel Eto'o's football fame, but just to establish a fact for posterity.

It should be noted that when Eto'o received the Player of the Year award in Nigeria, a Nigerian family made similar claims.
