Assab

The inhabitants of the Southern Red Sea region would get access to mobile phone services by the next month, according to Mr. Tesfaslasie Berhane, manager of ERI-TEL. He made the statement in a meeting he held with department heads of the regional administration, sub-zone administrators and other concerned parties.

Indicating that 16 towers have been installed along the area from around Gelalo to Assab, Mr. Tesfaslasie stated that the necessary infrastructure has already been put in place. He also expressed appreciation to Musa Ali, Gedem and Segen construction companies, as well as ERI-TEL staff members and Chinese engineers.

Mr. Tesfaslasie further underscored that the area and sub-zonal administrations would be responsible to permit mobile cell ownership after a customer fulfills the necessary requirements.

Moreover, he pointed out that wireless telephone service has already reached Ti'o, and that it would soon reach Assab. Moreover, public telephones in Assab town are being replaced with new ones so as to provide service with cards, the manager added.
