New York — An Angolan multi-sectoral delegation is attending since this Tuesday in New York the 52nd session of the United Nations on the situation of Women in the World, which will be on-going until 7 March.
Led by the deputy minister of Family Issues and Women Promotion, Paula do Sacramento Neto, the delegation is participating in the debates on financing of Member States for gender equality and women autonomy, as well as HIV/AIDS problem, among others.
Women perspectives on climate changes, women and children protection in Africa, the role of Parliament on financing for gender equality and local government budget for gender, are among the themes to be on debate.
The last UN meeting on Women, the 51st session, happened in New York from 26 February to 09 March 2007, and had as central topic the elimination of every type of discrimination and violence against girls.
At the occasion, the delegates examined the national policies with the aim of guaranteeing the fulfilment of the Declaration of Women's and Girl's Rights.
At this year's session, the Angolan delegation is being represented by a delegation that comprises deputy ministers, MPs, provincial deputy governors, female national and provincial directors of public institutions and other top female staff from various governmental departments, as well as members of the Civil Society, such as OMA (ruling MPLA party's female wing), Lima (opposition UNITA league) and the Women Network association.
