Harare — New Horizon Theatre Company will next month premiere a play "A Doll's House" at Reps Theatre Upstairs as the outfit rolls out some of its forthcoming attractions.

Largely composed of Chipawo graduates, New Horizon Theatre's attraction opens on March 18 with the support of the Norwegian Embassy in Harare. The next performances are due on March 20 and 21. Robert McLaren, the Chipawo executive director, said the performances -- to be screened on television -- would be captured on video for the benefit of theatre enthusiasts who miss the performances for one reason or another. "The performances will be filmed for television as part of the ongoing series on ZTV, Onstage. "Anyone wanting to attend can buy tickets before the show at the Reps Theatre or write us for an invitation," he said.

Prior to this show, McLaren said, New Horizon Theatre is set to perform at the Africa University Arts Festival in Mutare on March 1. "This time we will be presenting our rendition of Micere Mugo's poem, In Praise of Afrika's Children. There will also be a performance of our old-style Mqashiyo or Isimanjemanje choreography, straight from the era of Shabalala and Izintombi Zesimanjemanje and Mahlathini and the Mahotela Queens," he said.

On March 7, New Horizon Theatre takes their act to the Institute of Bankers annual dinner where they are scheduled to present three short performances. "They will be a mbira and marimba trio with song, a short selection of Zimbabwean traditional dances and a comic satire featuring topical goings-on in the contemporary Zimbabwean bank - what with inflation and regulations by the Reserve Bank -- this should be quite interesting," he added.

New Horizon is also billed to stage more shows at the Harare International School on dates to be advised.
