Cameroon: Declaration of the Head of State On the Ongoing Crisis

28 February 2008

document

The President has denounced the manipulation of Youths ans promised to ensure that law and order prevailed.

Our country is witnessing a situation which brings back unpleasant memories of a period we thought was long gone.

While it may be understandable that when negotiations fail, the demands of a group are sometimes expressed through strike action, it is unacceptable that such action should serve as a pretext for outpourings of violence against people and property. Besides, it is now established that any industrial dispute can always be resolved through negotiation.

In actual fact, that is not the problem. What is at issue is the use, not to say exploitation of the transporters' strike for political ends. For some people, who by the way, did not hide their intentions, the objective is to obtain through violence what they were unable to obtain through the ballot box, that is to say, through the normal functioning of democracy.

They therefore did not hesitate to throw into the streets bands of youths who were joined by delinquents lured by the possibility of looting. The results are there: public buildings destroyed or burnt down, shops and businesses looted or devastated.

Be it State property, I mean our common heritage, or private premises, these are years of efforts thus reduced to nothing.

The demons who manipulated these youths behind the scenes, were not bothered about the risk that they made them to run by exposing them to confrontations with the forces of law and order. As a result, several of them lost their lives, which, of course, cannot but be deplored.

When the human and material toll of these dark days will be taken, it will probably be very heavy. Those behind these manipulations definitely did not have the good of our people in their mind. A country cannot be built through destruction.

It should therefore be made absolutely clear that Cameroon is a Constitutional State and intends to remain so.

It has democratic institutions which are functioning normally. It is within this framework that the nation's problems are addressed. It is not in the street that they are resolved.

The vast majority of our people long for peace and stability. The last elections proved this. Cameroonians know that disorder can only bring about calamity and misery. We cannot allow that to happen.

To those who are responsible for manipulating the youth to achieve their aims, I want to tell them that their attempts are doomed to failure. All legal means available to Government will be brought into play to ensure the rule of law.

Fellow Cameroonians it is true that it easy to destroy than to construct, but it also true that for changes to take place in a country a revolution must take place.I think Cameroonians have taken enough from Biya who is the demon per se.Fellow Cameroonians i think Biya's days on earth are numbered that is why he wants to destroy the peace and harmony we have being enjoying.Paul Biya is about 90 years old and a man like him sees no reason in doing good things.I like to call on all the Cameroonians to please stop destroying what will be beneficial to us in future and should rather destroy Paul Biya.

Biya is a wolf in sheep skin. There is no democracy in cameroon and he should stop from playing those his dirty games.Since he came to power, what have you done for the people of that bless land?you keep stealing from the poor masses and stuffing your bank account with peoples money.Who ever told you that the president is supposed to be the richest person in the country?when you came to power the first thing you did was closed down major source of finance to the english speaking part of cameroon eg marketing board,IRZ,fonade, etc.Your son controls forestry industry in cameroon and what is his qualifiation in terms of education. Mr Biya it is time for you to go and let someone that has the interest of his people at heart to run this country as Ahidjo did. It is a shame that the UN and the west allow you in the union of leaders with your selfish and dictatorial mind,

Biya is evil. I have spent the last two years in Cameroon building a school in clinic. I've asked for the help of the government. The attitudes are that we Americans are so wealthy we can support whole villages and the government. I'm ashamed to say over fifty times I've been asked by the police/military for money to pass on the road. I always refuse I'm a missionary I tell them; last summer one policeman threatened to arrest he. If Biya ever left his palace he would know how corrupt his employees are or does he know and is keeping the money. I think so. Two years ago now the government promised to fix the road to Kan (9 miles of hell) all summer the politicians were out campaigning bring food & beer to the villages to win the vote. They promised a new road and a college. I told the villagers not to vote for them they were lying. And, oh yes they lied. Noting has been done to the road, now the politicians say the villagers will have to build the school and they will pay the teacher another HA. They never pay government teachers in the village now. Our villagers are dying because of the road conditions. Last year one of the elected officials told me "You are a rich American you can fix the road and build school for us" I was so very angry, as I had just travel to a village north of Eseka. The road was 30 miles of bliss and I was told that there is a road crew always maintaining the road. They I hear that a big government official live in a village off the road afte.r his village the road is very bad. Where is the JUSTICE? I Love Cameroon and it's people and hope to spend my life working with & for them. God willing in March our family will travel again to Cameroon for 28 mission days. Please pray for Peace for the suppressed Cameroonians.

Fellow cameroonians,i will start by asking these questions; does Paul Biya(grand popol)really have conscience? OR is him God fearing?. Well to me i believe he is the BIGGEST FOOL that has ever exist since the creation of the universe. The fight must still continue wether he likes it or not,"U CAN'T DECEIVE A BABER TWICE". Then all the police men who are killing others, claiming to maintain order, are helping their 'grand frere'(popol)to dig their graves. They think they are securing their jobs but instead, they are helping paul biya to invite CALAMITY. When the real target will be his heir FRANK,thats when he will realise the impact of his tyracy....the battle line has just been drawn. My fellow cameroonians, this is not a matter between SDF & CPDM, but its a matter between paul biya and the masses. Therefore lets RISE and FIGHT for our RIGHTS like the days in South Africa. BIYA'S CHARMS WILL FAIL HIM THIS TIME AROUND.
