The delegation from the ADB was at the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family yesterday.

The Minister of Women's Empowerment and the Family, Suzanne Mbomback yesterday granted audience to a delegation from the African Development Bank (BAD). The delegation is in Cameroon to prepare a project on water and sanitation. The project which is an initiative of the African Development Bank will kick-off in 16 towns and cities in eight provinces in the country. According to the head of delegation, Horugavye Patrice, the date for the kick-off is yet to be determined as information is still being gathered on the field to know what will be the main component of the project. He said the visit to the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family was to see how the Ministry could collaborate with the project so that women can take an active part in it. According to him, the woman is at the centre of every economic activity and family life and that all projects that will help the economy will help the family as well. "I think access to water is a priority and if there is a facility to accord the woman is her access to water," he said.

The visitors also wanted to know how the Ministry functions and to have an idea of the family code of Cameroon. Minister Mbomback thanked them for their concern on the wellbeing of the Cameroonian woman. She used the occasion to explain to the visitors the functions of the ministry. As for the family code of Cameroon, she said documents are in the final stage. Horugavye Patrice said the African Development Bank has taken the initiative to assist African countries in water and sanitation with their funds and bilateral funds. The delegation from the African Development Bank had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Water and Energy Resources.
