Sierra Leone: St. Patrick Church Launches 180th Anniversary Celebrations

Freetown — The St. Patrick Church in Kissy last Sunday launched its 180th anniversary celebrations at the church premises in Freetown.

Giving the background of the celebration, chairman of the celebration committee, E. A. Wilson-Taylor said their greatest grand parents had left them a holy heritage to go by.

He told worshippers including distinguished patronage who graced the occasion that the 180th anniversary celebration of the church is going to be observed from February 24th 2008 to February 22, 2009.

According to Bishop JOP Lynch, a lot of development had taken place over the years since the establishment of the church in 1828 adding that St. Patrick Church Diocese in Freetown is linked to the one in England around Gatwick area.

He said the English Diocese had built a boat with outboard engine for the inhabitants of Kent and Banana Island adding, "Such development can enhance the Anglican Church Diocese in Freetown.

"Those who praise God and give alms get reward from Him. Brothers and sisters you have done beautifully by keeping your church alive. Beware that you must be rewarded," he said.

Lynch described the celebration as a Christian life that is worth to be committed to keep, trust and glorified and that others should search their conscience for what they have done for their church.

Formally launching the 180th anniversary, Minister of State Vice President office, Balogun Koroma disclosed that President Ernest Koroma has promised to worship with the congregation at anytime whether announced or unannounced.

Dignitaries including the Acting Chief Justice, Umu Tejan Jalloh, did the lighting of the anniversary candles.

Irene Thomas delivered the vote of thanks.
