The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Yahaya Musa Mohammed, has said that his administration would provide standard learning facilities for secondary schools in the council.
Alhaji Yahaya, who made the pledge Tuesday at the 9th edition of Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) annual inter house sports competition at Abaji, said his administration is mindful of its responsibilities towards the educational sector in the council.
He explained that his administration has constructed eight blocks of two class rooms each at various communities of the council as well as distributed 90, 000 text books to primary schools.
Other assistance given to schools according to the council boss includes the payment of school fees for female students and the recruitment of 88 primary schoolteachers.
The chairman further assured that he would provide all the necessary sporting equipment in schools in the council.
Earlier in his speech, the principal of GSSS, Malam, Ibrahim Umar Yahaya, said sport is an integral part of the school's curriculum that helps in training and developing sport loving students whose dynamic strength could be harnessed for meaningful development.
He said the school's team emerged the overall winner in Kwali zone during the 2007-2008 FCT shell cup competition and disclosed further that the team's captain was picked as a member of the under 13 foot ball team.
Highlights of the occasion were relay races Government Secondary School, Rubochi, emerged winner with 260 points, GSS Kwali came second with 199 points, GSS Yaba took third position while GSSS Abaji came fourth.
