Nairobi — AN inmate at the Naivasha Prison made history after scoring an impressive B- (minus) in last year's KCSE examination.

Vincent Cheruiyot Kiprotich, 21, attained the best result ever from a prison. Four prisoners, including two on death row, scored C- (minus) in the exams those attracted 11 inmates.

Kiprotich, who is serving 15 years for defilement, scored 53 points despite the handicaps in the prison. It was song and dance as fellow inmates and staff celebrated the results.

Kiprotich attributed his good performance to hard work and determination.

Kiprotich, who was arrested while in Form Three in Londiani for defilement, hopes that he would achieve his dreams of being an engineer.

The second best inmate, Mark Simiyu, who is on death row, appealed for help, as the facility was ill equipped. The officer in charge of the prison, Mr Patrick Mwenda, congratulated the inmates for making the institution proud. His sentiments were echoed by the social welfare officer, Mr Douglas Mugendi, who said the results had been improving over the last five years.
