Kenya: Learning Stops As Students Celebrate

Nairobi — CHEERS rent the air at St Joseph's High, Kitale, after a student from the school emerged among the top 10 countrywide.

Musa Kerobu Misiani, 18, was ranked eighth.

"He has done us proud, we are happy with his performance," said the school principal, Mr Peter Abwongo.

Learning came to a standstill at the school as the 1,000 excited students jumped out of the classrooms to congratulate Misiani, who had been driven into the school.

"We are conquerors. We are proud of you. This has always been our dream. Congrats Misiani! You are our star," shouted the joyful students.

Misiani's teachers said he was determined to excel.

Obwongo said he was excited with the boy's performance, saying Misiani was among the group he admitted in the school when he was posted to the institution in 2004.

Misiani attributed his performance to family challenge, hard work and inspiration from his teachers. "My mother is poor but I took it as a challenge to excel in school and make her happy" said Misiani, as his mother Ms Joyce Moraa, hugged him.

He wants to pursue either neuro-surgery or law but his hope lies on the availability of money to achieve this dream.
