Rwanda: Kamanzi Breathes Life Into Rugby Federation

1 March 2008

Kigali — Rwanda Rugby Federation's newly elected president Alexis Kamanzi has emphasized the need for teamwork within the rugby fraternity. He made this call following Rwanda's rugby decline last year.

Kamanzi, 43 who also doubles as the president of Remera Gorillas is a founding member of the RRF. He assumed office as RRF president back in 2002 but stepped down in 2005 citing incompetence in the federation.

Kamanzi who is said to have been the lone fighter during his former tenure of office has no better fitting war cry than, 'Together we stand, divided we fall".

"We have to build everything around teamwork and forge a way forward," he emphasized.

The new federation also recently held a very productive meeting with the federation's key partners 'Friend for Rwanda Rugby (FoRR)'. According to the meeting outcomes, the UK based charity agreed in principle to work openly with the federation.

Kamanzi has also pointed out that high on the agenda this year is the search for a suitable piece of land that could be developed into a rugby pitch as this would drive the roots of rugby deeper into Rwanda. FoRR will provide the funds to purchase the ground.

"The new committee will not be shy to knock at every corporate door looking for sponsorship. It's also planning to revive its now dormant website to ensure access to all Rwanda rugby fans," Kamanzi further said.
