Residents of Sabongari quarters in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory at the weekend protested over constant power outage in their area.

The group took to the streets carrying placards that had different inscriptions, condemning Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) for their failure to supply electricity for the past three months.

The spokesperson of the protesters, Engineer Kadri Patrice said the group resolved to voice out feelings so that government can find a lasting solution to their problem.

"We have been paying all our electricity bills and are surprised that PHCN has a negative attitude towards us by providing us with poor services," he said.

He said what really aggravated the issue was the arrogance of PHCN officials, whom he said threatened to disconnect the houses of those that complained about the sudden increase in their monthly electricity bills.

"A transformer was recently donated to the area by PHCN's headquarters in Abuja but the officials at Bwari refused to install the equipment in spite of money collected from the residents," he added.

The spokesperson said the community has resolved not to pay further PHCN electricity bills until their power outage problems are looked into.

"We contributed N35, 000 for the installation of the transformer, but up to this moment the installation has not been done" he said.

The Marketing Manager PHCN, Bwari, Samy Orochi said PHCN is aware of the problem faced by the community and are making efforts to normalize it.

He declined to comment on how soon the problem solved and whether PHCN officials collected money for the community to install a transformer.

Resident of Kuduru Village has also complained of lack of electricity for a long period of time.

Dr. Nicolas Ivato, a resident of the area alleged that the place was thrown into darkness last year when a Julius Berger truck knocked down some electric poles in the area.

He said Julius Berger Company has provided poles to replace the ones they felled but they are yet to be fixed by PHCN.
