Cameroon: Over Speeding - Even You?

It was with a lot of interest that many road users read the list of transport agencies whose buses were caught over speeding over the last couple of months. Commuters sought to know if the name of their favourite agency was on this "black list" of the Minister of Transport.

And great indeed was the shock of many people. Reason: the list of 13 is made up of most of the big names in inter urban transportation in Cameroon. Even those considered today as the best!

Apparently, the virus of over speeding has eaten deep into the fabrics of our transport sector. Easy therefore to understand why accidents have become customary on our highways. Besides the sensitisation of the owners of the agencies and their drivers, transport officials should think of enforcing severe repressive actions that will oblige drivers to respect the different speed limits. Such actions should be applied without fear or favour as prevention is always better than cure.
