Asmara — 11 youths who followed a five-year course graduated in diploma on March 2 from Asmara Music School which functions under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education. The course focused on basic education of music and application of different musical instruments.
The director of the School, Mr. Elias Woldegebriel, stressed the need for giving special attention to the school in view of the shortage of enough music professionals in the country.
The director general of research and human resource development department in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Petros Hailemariam, handed certificates to the graduates and prizes to those who demonstrated excellence in the course. He indicated that the main objective of the school is to nurture competent youth artists, and thereby bestow the influential role of music in the wellbeing of the society. He also underlined the need to nurture skilled music professionals so as to utilize the rich cultural heritage of the country and develop the nation's musical performances.
Asmara Music School currently providing courses to 100 students in different levels is a continuation of the same school that was established in the days of the armed struggle in 1985.
