Addis Ababa — The Center for Africa Women Economic Empowerment(CAWEE) on Wednesday awarded Six Ethiopian women exporters in the hand loom sector for their remarkable achievements in the world market where they generated 400,000 USD.
Speaking at millennium Award program at the National Palace on Wednesday, CAWEE Focal Person Nigest Haile said the award was intended to congratulate the women on their success and encourage to do more in the sector they are engaged .
She said the award will also be of much help to initiate the women to diversify their trade at the international market.
Nigist pointed out that additional training was organized for the women with a view to encourage them to expand their business and enabling them to promote their items through CAWEE Website.
According to Nigist Canadian government and Ministry of Trade and Industry was behind the success story of these women.
FDRE President Girma Woldegiorgis handed out the prizes to the women.
Muya Ethiopia, Saba Har, Membis Design, Nigist Ethiopia, GMM Garment and Treo Craft took their prises ranking 1-6 in the same order.
The Ethiopia Air Lines offered a free air ticket valued at 2000 US which went to the first prize.
Established in June 2004 as a non-governmental organization, CAWEE focuses on economic empowerment of women through different strategies through training, advocacy, counselling, facilitating business linkages and networking.
